Don’t Go to Seychelles in October Just for the Beaches and that means one thing: Festival Kreol is back!
But if you think Seychelles is only about white-sand beaches, turquoise waters and palm trees, October might completely change the way you see the islands.
Festival Kreol 2026 in Seychelles celebrates its 41st edition, transforming the islands into a vibrant showcase of Creole culture for almost the entire month. And this year there is an even bigger reason to celebrate: the festival coincides with the 50th anniversary of Seychelles’ Independence.
The theme for 2026 is “Our Moments”: moments to share through music, language, food, art, dance and traditions.
And that is exactly what makes October so special. If you are travelling to Seychelles during Festival Kreol, you won’t necessarily have to go looking for local culture.
Local culture will come looking for you.

Festival Kreol 2026: It’s Not Just an Event, It’s a Whole Month to Experience
When you hear about Festival Kreol Seychelles, it is easy to imagine a festival taking place over just two or three days.
In reality, it is quite the opposite.
The Festival Kreol 2026 calendar covers almost the entire month of October, with events taking place across Mahé and La Digue and a programme featuring very different experiences.
Tourism Seychelles lists Festival Kreol 2026 from 3 to 31 October, while the celebrations begin with the Beau Vallon Regatta weekend from 2 to 4 October.
Among the events scheduled for the month are:
- Regatta 2026 in Beau Vallon, from 2 to 4 October, bringing together sport, music, food and a lively local atmosphere;
- Bazar Spesyal, the Creole markets held at Domaine de Val des Prés;
- Regional Moutya, with events in Victoria, Anse Royale, La Digue and Grand Anse Mahé;
- Karnaval Zanfan, dedicated to children and younger generations;
- art exhibitions, performances, live music and activities celebrating the Creole language;
- Dimans Kreol, the Creole Sunday celebration on 25 October;
- Tonbola, the major Creole fair taking place at Freedom Square from 29 to 31 October;
- and the legendary Bal Bobes, closing the month on 31 October… with dancing until 6 a.m.!

Why You Should Experience Festival Kreol During a Trip to Seychelles
For me, this is the most important part.
Seychelles is known around the world for its beaches, but Seychelles is so much more than the sea.
During Festival Kreol, you can discover a side of the islands that rarely appears in the classic postcard images: families, musicians, artists, small local producers, traditional dishes and, above all, the people who continue to keep customs passed down through generations alive.
You can listen to the rhythm of Moutya, wander through a Creole market, taste local dishes, watch artisans at work and suddenly find yourself dancing alongside Seychellois people.
Festival Kreol is one of the most important celebrations of Creole identity in Seychelles, created to celebrate and preserve the cultural heritage of the islands.
If you want to discover more of this side of the destination, you can also read my guide to things to do on Mahé Island and my selection of the best restaurants in Mahé Seychelles.
Because getting to know a destination also means tasting it.
Festival Kreol 2026 Events I Wouldn’t Miss
If you only have a few days available, that does not mean you have to miss out on Festival Kreol.
Quite the opposite: you simply need to know where to go and when, choosing the right events and fitting them naturally into your Seychelles itinerary.
One event I would definitely put on my calendar is the Beau Vallon Regatta, one of the island’s most popular and lively celebrations.
Then there is Moutya, which is much more than a dance. It is one of the deepest cultural expressions of Seychelles, recognised by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
And, of course, there is the grand finale.
From 29 to 31 October, Freedom Square will host Tonbola, with Creole food, traditional games, cultural activities, local businesses and entertainment.
Then, on 31 October, it will be time for Bal Bobes, the traditional Creole ball. For 2026, events are scheduled at Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay , Seafront Restaurant and Backstage with Jean Marc Volcy & Boya band, from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning.
Yes, you read that correctly: until six in the morning.
I still wonder how Seychellois people manage to dance all night… but that is another story!

Seychelles in October: Planning Your Trip Properly Makes All the Difference
One of the best things about Festival Kreol 2026 is that you do not need to completely rearrange your holiday to experience it.
You can still enjoy the beaches, excursions, Praslin and La Digue while adding some Festival Kreol events to your itinerary by carefully planning your dates and transfers.
This allows you to:
- experience Seychelles beyond its beaches, connecting with local culture and Seychellois people;
- make the most of each day by choosing events that fit the areas you are already visiting;
- avoid unnecessary travelling by planning an itinerary that works with the Festival Kreol calendar rather than against it.
October is already a month I often recommend for discovering the islands. On my blog, you can also read my guide on the best time to visit Seychelles and the Seychelles climate.
If, instead, you want to build your trip around the experiences you genuinely want to have, you can discover my personalised Seychelles travel consultations.
Because Festival Kreol in Seychelles is not something you simply watch from the outside.
It is something you experience.
And perhaps, once you have experienced it, these “Our Moments” — rather than just the beaches — will become some of the memories you take home with you.

This Year, We’ll Experience Festival Kreol Together
PFor me, Festival Kreol 2026 will be even more special.
At the end of October, I will be in Seychelles with a group of 17 travellers, ready to discover the islands not only through their beaches, but especially through their people, culture and traditions.
And what better time to do it than during the most Creole month of the year?
During our trip, we will experience some of the events and traditions connected to Festival Kreol and Seychellois culture, immerse ourselves in local life and, of course, I will take you along with us.
I will be sharing the experiences we have, the places we visit, the flavours we discover and plenty of moments from our journey, showing you a side of Seychelles that is difficult to find in traditional travel guides.
So, if you want to see what it is really like to experience Seychelles during Festival Kreol, make sure you follow me throughout October.
This year, I won’t just tell you about it in an article.I’ll take you there with us, directly from Seychelles.
And if, while following us, you find yourself thinking, “Next time, I want to be there too,” keep watching: during this trip, I will reveal the next group departure to Seychelles with me.
Maybe next time, you won’t be watching us from the other side of the screen…you’ll be there with us.
And for 2027? Book in October!
If you are thinking of visiting the Seychelles, October is the perfect time to immerse yourself in the local culture.
My advice? Plan your October 2027 vacation now: attend the next edition of the Festival Kreol and experience the island at its most authentic.
