The best restaurant on Mahè island

Tempo di lettura 7 minuti

If you are planning your trip and wondering where to eat in Mahé Seychelles, let me tell you one thing: here you will find the best restaurants on Mahé island in Seychelles.

This is about experiences.

Eating in Seychelles means smelling grilled fish in the air, having dinner with your feet in the sand, listening to the sound of the ocean while the sun goes down… and, above all, getting in touch with the most authentic Creole culture.

In this guide, I have collected for you the best restaurants in Mahé, divided by area, with a mix of iconic places, favorite spots, and little gems that you absolutely have to try.

North Mahé: Beau Vallon and Surroundings (between sunsets and a lively atmosphere)

Beau Vallon is the beating heart of the island.

People come here for the sea… but they stay for the atmosphere.

  • Boat House – Beau Vallon Walking in here is like taking a journey into Creole tradition. The buffet is incredibly rich, colorful, and fragrant: curries, fish, vegetables, rice… everything arranged on a boat in the middle of the room. And then there is the grill, always on, where meat and fish are cooked on the spot.👉 It’s one of those places where you sit down saying “I’ll just try a little”… and then get up having tried everything.
  • Baobab Pizzeria – Beau Vallon Here, time stands still. Tables on the sand, the sound of the sea in the background, and a really easygoing place. So yes, your feet are directly in the sand. The pizza is great, but the real value is the atmosphere: simple, relaxed, authentic. Perfect for a carefree evening. Here you cannot book — first come, first served. If you arrive later, you’re out of luck.
  • Coral Strand – Beau Vallon If there is one place where you have to stop at least once, it’s here. A cocktail in your hand, the sun slowly going down over the ocean… and that feeling of “ok, I’m really in Seychelles”.  👉 Inside you will also find Mahek Restaurant, perfect if you love Indian cuisine.
  • La Perle Noire – Beau Vallon Here, the level goes up. A fusion of Creole and Italian cuisine done really well — or better said, absolutely mouth-watering. My favorite dish? Smoked fish tartare and spaghetti with tuna tartare, which unfortunately they make one week yes and one week no. A restaurant like in the old days. 👉 One of my absolute favorites. And when you go… say hi to Dino and Marco for me.
  • La Scala – Bel Ombre Romantic, elegant, perfect for a special dinner. Everything here is carefully thought out: atmosphere, dishes, service. Ideal if you want to treat yourself to a different kind of evening.
  • Rockpool – Glacis A place that has something magical. A mix of lounge, soft music, and ocean view. The terrace upstairs is perfect for a sunset drink.👉 Even just for the atmosphere, it is worth it.

Victoria: a break between culture and local flavors

Victoria is the smallest capital in the world, but full of life during the day.

In the evening, I call it the ghost town because everything becomes super quiet.

  • News Café Perfect for a quick break while visiting the city. Sandwiches, smoothies, light dishes.
  • La Dolce Vita Just a few steps from the Clock Tower. Here you will find a mix of Creole and Italian cuisine, in a simple but welcoming environment. They make pizza and, in my opinion, the best one on Mahé island. The added value? Giuseppe, the owner. 👉 One of those stories that often happen in Seychelles: you arrive for a trip… and stay for love.
  • Lansiv Café A new, fresh, young place. Dish of the day, salads, smoothies. 👉 This one belongs to my cousin 😊
  • Moloko The most local restaurant on the island, with lots of dishes, entertainment, and events. The dish I prefer is Bol Renversé, sometimes called Magic Bowl. It is a typical dish from Mauritius with strong Chinese influences: rice with meat and spiced vegetables placed inside a bowl, then turned upside down onto the plate and decorated with a fried egg. This one also belongs to my cousin, a Mauritian who has now become Seychellois.
  • Marie Antoinette – St Louis Here, you step into history.  Since 1972, this restaurant has been a landmark for Creole cuisine. Rustic atmosphere, authentic dishes, real flavors.
  • Coco Blue On the first floor of Victoria House, you can taste original dishes and cocktails while admiring the Clock Tower (the miniature Big Ben, symbol of the capital Victoria).
  • Aloha – Docklands Building A touch of style both in the atmosphere and in the dishes, truly unique in Indian cuisine.

South and West Mahé: the most authentic part of the island

Here, Mahé changes rhythm.

More nature, less chaos… more real Seychelles.

  • Maria’s Rock – Baie Lazare One of the most particular places on the island. Very characteristic because you eat on a pirate ship, and their specialties are Pierrade (you cook meat and/or fish yourself on a hot stone) and crêpes. Inside this restaurant there is also the house of the owner Antonio, a very famous artist and sculptor here in Seychelles, who built his house entirely by hand among the granite boulders. Spectacular! There is also a small gallery with all his paintings and sculptures to visit. When you pass by, say Laura sent you! 👉 When you go, tell him I sent you.
  • Anchor Café – Anse La Mouche Simple, sea view, incredible sunsets. Here you are not looking for luxury, but authenticity. The fish & chips and fried eggplant fritters are absolutely delicious, not to mention the Margarita — the best in Seychelles.
  • Hidden Cove Café (Ex Anse Soleil Café) – Anse Soleil Directly on one of the most beautiful beaches in Mahé. Creole dishes and a postcard view. 👉 Try the kari poul koko, coconut octopus curry — my favorite dish, but be careful if you don’t eat spicy food.
  • The Deck – Anse Soleil Eating on a terrace facing the sea? Priceless.
  • Club Liberté 5 Spices – Petite Anse Imagine tasting exquisite cuisine from an à la carte menu or delicious sushi, where every dish is prepared to perfection.
  • Kapatya – Anse La Mouche Creole cuisine, tropical atmosphere.
  • Chez Plume – Anse Boileau Since 1986. Well-prepared dishes, local ingredients, tradition. The fish with passion fruit sauce is something you absolutely have to try.
  • Pineapple Cabana – Anse Aux Poules Bleues Hidden in the lush jungle. Surrounded by tropical vegetation, the open-air gazebo offers an authentic island dining experience, where nature meets flavor. The menu celebrates Seychelles cuisine, prepared with fresh local ingredients and lively Creole influences.
  • La Gaulette – Anse Gaulette Creole menu with a unique view over the turquoise waters of the ocean and an enchanting atmosphere that gives guests a true holiday feeling.

East Coast of Mahé

  • Lo Brizan – Au Cap A true little gem of style and elegance. This small restaurant and its Creole cuisine will pamper you from the very first step.
  • Green House – Au Cap An unusual restaurant located in Au Cap, offering delicious dishes to those looking for a unique setting, a greenhouse-like atmosphere with a Zen touch.
  • Lobster Bay – Au Cap Creole and international cuisine. But the real strong point is the people: kind, welcoming, genuine.
  • Maison Marengo Dinner in a Creole house, among little lights and a warm atmosphere. Kevin, the owner, an old friend of mine, will know how to make you enjoy yourself. They also organize evenings with live music and karaoke. 👉 The sesame tuna is a must-try.
  • Royalbay Beachbar – Anse Royale A truly typical alternative restaurant directly on the beach, where you will eat without shoes and with the sound of the ocean.
  • Kafe Kreol – Anse Royale Eating with your feet in the sand, in front of the sea. This is the true spirit of Seychelles. On Fridays there is live Moutya music.
  • Surfer Beach Restaurant Informal, direct, authentic. Right by the sea — so relaxing. Wood-fired pizza and Creole cuisine… just steps from the ocean.

North West Mahé: ocean views and hidden gems

  • Del Place – Port Glaud One of my favorites. Incredible view, relaxed atmosphere, amazing sunsets. I call it très romantique.
  • Constance Ephelia and its restaurants
  • Corossol: the main buffet restaurant, open for breakfast and dinner with international cuisine.
  • Helios: beachfront restaurant offering Mediterranean buffet for lunch and à la carte specialties.
  • Adam & Eve: located near the pool, serving Asian cuisine focused on fresh flavors.
  • Cyann: gourmet restaurant overlooking Port Launay Marine Park, offering a fusion of Asian and French flavors.
  • Seselwa: typical Creole cuisine in an informal beachfront setting.

Eden Island: modern, lively, international

  • It is a private artificial island located just off the east coast of Mahé, the main island of Seychelles. It is connected to Mahé by a bridge of about 200 meters.
  • Fuego Angel fish sandwiches, schnitzel, and fries accompanied by a nice cold beer, music, and owners (mom and dad with crazy energy, plus their children) who are super friendly and welcoming.
  • Boardwalk Bar & Grill Music, cocktails, movement. Perfect if you want a more dynamic atmosphere. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and after dinner. They never sleep here.
  • Bravo Huge rectangular pizza, burgers, and yacht views. 👉 Not everyone manages to finish it.
  • The Maharajas Authentic Indian cuisine, cooked the old-fashioned way.
  • Ochan Restaurant A unique concept: 5 different cuisines in the same place.

💡 Important Tips

✔ Always book before going out to dinner, so you can find a table without having to wander around and go crazy.

In Seychelles, people eat early, and since the sun sets around 6:20 pm, I would say: shower and dinner!!!

💙 My Final Reflection

You do not go to Seychelles only to see the sea.

You go to live.
To feel.
To let yourself be surprised.

And even at the table, every restaurant tells a story.

👉 And remember: you can have dinner in any hotel, even if you are not staying there.

Every hotel in Seychelles has a restaurant open to everyone, so you can book a romantic dinner in any property you like even if you are not staying there.
