Good morning to all moms and dads,
want to leave for these fantastic islands but are you afraid of not being up to it to face a long journey away from your home?
Don’t worry, I’m sure the SEYCHELLES destination will make you forget everything right away!
Here you are some practical tips for organizing and tackling your trip to the Seychelles.
10 SUPER TIPS
- Make a list of what you need to bring during your vacation, so that you are sure not to forget anything such as dummy, bottle, teddy bear diapers etc.
- The journey by plane lasts about 10 hours plus the stop, so, in your hand luggage, bring some toys, books and if you have tablets with games and cartoons to entertain your children. It depends on the airline you are traveling on but Emirates, Qatar is a fantastic entertainment level.
- Before booking your flight, evaluate which route is right for you, that is, if you want to travel during the day or at night, calculating that if you travel at night, sleep will be broken because there is a stopover and therefore for those who are light sleepers in my opinion it is not very comfortable, but every child is different. I have two children and with the second I have always preferred to go to the Seychelles with the day flight.
- To organize your holiday I recommend that you rely on specialists (write me in the comments I can give you a list based on where you live) so you can be sure to find the right structures for you. To be pampered you can opt for a holiday in a guesthouse, a family-run mini hotel where you will stay in a room and have all the services of a hotel (breakfast and dinner) but in a more limited way (there are no Spa and more restaurants). To be super free and autonomous you can choose a self-catering (accommodation) where you will have all the comforts of your home (kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, balcony, veranda or garden) and instead for the most demanding hotels of various categories.
- If your doubt is stroller yes or stroller no then consider this choice well. At Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi airports there are strollers for everyone during your stopover. So the question to ask is: do I really need the stroller for the few hours of layover? In the Seychelles there are no walks and sidewalks apart from Beau Vallon which by the way is a very short walk, so here is the answer. In the Seychelles, the stroller will be of very little use unless you have a really small child and so it is another matter.
6. Seychelles cuisine is also suitable for younger children, I speak like this because both of my children weaned their grandmother in the Seychelles. Single dishes of white basmati rice, creamy lentils accompany the main food such as fish, chicken or veal. Chilli pepper is widely used in Creole cuisine but always served separately. Curry is also used in moderation where the tourist is, therefore in hotels and restaurants. A different thing for the locals, the chili pepper is strong enough to make your eyes water. If your baby is very small then bring baby food as there are no such things here in the Seychelles.
7. For sure on the island of Mahe and Praslin you will rent a car so here too the obvious question to ask is car highchair yes or no? The car seat law is also in force here in the Seychelles but not everyone uses it. My advice is to request it (sometimes they ask for an extra € 5 per day) both for your safety and for the comfort of the child, calculate the most beautiful thing all day on the beach and sit your child on the seat to make him relax without sticking to your skin and why not maybe even take a nap. Did I get the idea?
8. If you do not know which island to visit I would absolutely say the three main Mahe, Praslin and La Digue since the movements are very fast and therefore even if you have to pack your bags it is really worth it. Especially in la Digue which will be beautiful for your children who, in contact with nature in the bicycle seat, will admire the view.
9. To play on the beach, bring a set of plastic toys so at least your children will be happy. To remove some clutter and leave room for some souvenirs I would say that a nice idea is to give games to the children you find on the beach, not because they can’t afford it but because it’s a nice gesture and a nice memory for both those who receive it. but also for those who offer!
10. Drum roll … the smaller your child, the less you will spend on your trip to the Seychelles, not only on overnight stays, up to 6 years of age some structures welcome children for free, but also on the flight. From 0-2 years old children pay a negligible expense (taxes) from 2-12 years old they pay about 70% of the ticket price (it’s not much but always less than the entire flight).
I hope I have given you two tips on how to organize yourself so you just have to board and leave.
Have a nice trip
